I can't move the plasmoids in the panel

Asked by AndreasDavour

Maybe I've misunderstood how the new panel works, but I can't seem to move any of the applets.

What I did:
I right clicked on the panel, wanting to add an icon to quick launch a konsole. I turned off the Task Manager, since I didn't want all those buttons cluttering my panel. I then added a konsole app, that didn't work the way I though, but that's another question.

The problem:
When I had removed the Task Manager, the applets (plasmoids?) are spread out unevenly over the panel. For example I have the digital clock sitting somewhere like 75% to the left and 25% to the left a have a cluster of applets that sit together, and there's a lot of black space in between all these. My applets are scattered and it not only looks ugly, it also makes we have to wave back and forth to click the once I need instead of having them aligned.

What I want:
In KDE 3.5 you could right click on a applet and move it around and thus get the trashcan and the clock to the rightmost end, and starting with the K menu have the others nicely aligned to the left.

So, can I move those applets? How? KDE4 is very confusing so far.

OK. I kept searching after the KDE help didn't give any answers. The solution was found in the openSUSE forums.

Right click on the panel and choose panel settings, then hover the pointer over the icon to move.

Still some oddities remain, like why on earth the system tray and the clock takes up 40% of the whole panel, each!!!
