Can you run Joomla 1.5 without a server?

Asked by Ampers

I am using Ubuntu v8.10 and would like to build a website incorporating a blog.

I have read through a lot of the data on the Joomla site but am confused as it seems to keep referring to servers.

I want to run it on my single home computer.

Any help would be appreciated, and please bear in mind that I get easily lost with Linux. :-)

Yep, it's possible to run it on your local host - you can run Joomla on your local host. But you have to install XAMPP first. Reaad the following page:

http://www.apachefriends.org/de/xampp.html

Hope it helps. If you have more questions, please ask. Maybe I''ll be able to get an answer.

On another front, do you know of any books showing in a simple form how to set it all up?

I noticed two on Amazon.co.uk - one was a Beginners guide and the other one was not due out until later this year. (I could easily wait).

Ampers.

Hi Ampers

Great if it works.

No, I don't know any books. But you can find a lot of documentation on the following link::
http://docs.joomla.org/

Books you can find under amazon.com. They have al lot of Jommla books. Enter Joomla in the search field and you will find them all.

Hope it helps.
