jokosher eats my mixtapes

Asked by Daniel Holbach

I'm not filing a bug report (yet), as I'm not sure if it's my fault, the kernel's fault, gstreamer's fault or jokosher doing something wrong.

Pretty regularly my mixtapes (recordings ranging from 30min to 60min) end up being .ogg garbage. The first 2-5 minutes of the resulting .ogg file are ok, but after that it's just garbage. A first indicator is often that after finishing the recording the resulting (normally beautiful) cairo graphs are not fine-grained, but pretty rough sketches.

For now I tried to solve the situation by telling myself that the mix wasn't that good and that there were things to improve anyway. After losing several mixes to that cause, I'm having more and more trouble convincing myself that I'm doing something wrong. :-)

If it's not jokosher's fault, please help to summon the combined GStreamer Heroes to help find out what's going wrong.

I'm using jokosher 0.2 on an upgraded feisty i386 machine. As I can't attach files in a support request, find a resulting .ogg file and a log obtained by running:
  GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=true GST_DEBUG=3 jokosher 2&> LOG

at http://daniel.holba.ch/jokosher

If you need more info, let me know.

Are they coming out as garbage straight from the recording? Like you click play after recording and they are garbage, or it is the mixdown process in Jokosher that turns them into garbage?

The former. But mixdown obviously doesn't help. I tried it once and noticed that the broken 90% were "mixed down" in just some seconds.

Sébastien just asked me, if this happens since the new CVS gstreamer upload which was 2007-01-10 - for all I know, it could be.

I think I'll just ask the nice people in #gstreamer.
