atheros wireless card Ubuntu

card is listed and hardware manager says it is activated but in lshw -C network shows as unclaimed.

Any ideas? I have attempted to install madwifi but not much luck with the download.

Can you provide more information? what is your ubuntu version?
can you see atheros card by typing "lspci"? Most of atheros cards are supported by in-kernel ath5k/ath9k driver or madwifi driver.

Ubuntu 8.1 with an atheros 5007 wireless card. In the hardware manager the driver is listed and shows enabled but not functioning.

As I remeber, madwifi already supports Atheros 5007 wireless card, here is madwifi website: http://madwifi-project.org/
How about "iwconfig -a" , "ifconfig -a" and "lspci" output?
