Join the project
Hi
I am a recent graduate from Swinburne University of Technology and currently taking a short time off before I start to work full time as a Software Developer.
In my spare time I was looking through my music library and found it very unorganised, so started searching for some softwares to help me with organizing of tags and information of songs. Came across many Commercial and free options. But only 2 were good enough for the job.
1. TuneUp media - Paid
2. Picard - free MusicBrainz
The problem with them was they are not very good at identifying songs with compression very well and also need lots of human input when application find conflict between songs or audio sample is very small.
Also to identify a song they need almost 100-120 second of sample and has very awful UI.Adding to that one of that is commercial and none of them has Open Source Fingerprint Technology.
So I thought of creating my own piece of software using MusicBrainz - GenPUID exe and dll and write my own .Net Application over it. I thought of tweaking and improving performance too. But as it was closed source the options were very limited.
Then once scanning through the MusicBrainz wiki I came across this project and it seems that this is the kind of project that i was looking for with appropriate Licences to make my project a Open Source project too.
I am a Bachelors of Computing Graduate, I know very little about fingerprinting technology and what I have learnt is by reading papers on different technologies being researched and compared. Also I am good at programing Java and implementing complex algorithm in very efficient manner.
I want to create an application which is very fast and requires less human input and try to resolve conflicts by different logic which I have worked out to improve the final User Experience. Also this could help me with my portfolio and should be a good piece of work to show in my future interviews. And I will be more then happy to Improve the jHears project if I could be of any help. Currently as the jHears technology is very new the fingerprint database will be very limited so to populate the data in database I was planning to couple up the GenPUID technology with jHears and populate the database for the songs that user scans using the application and then return the correct tags from MusicBrainz Database and also store a copy in jHears Database.
There is lots more in mind.
I would like to sincerely thank you for your time to read this and also for the effort you have done in the field of improving the Fingerprint technology and making it a Open source project and I will be very gald to help if needed.
Sincerely
Kamil Dhuleshia
