PHP PCRE version

Looks like PHP 5.3.4 is using PCRE 6.6 06-Feb-2006 . Looks like the latest bundled version is 8.x[1]. Any chance the next release can include a more modern version of PCRE?

Additionally, the latest php53u implements the bundled version of PCRE. We would be grateful if you could test the latest version in ius-testing and provide feedback in the bug linked above.
