Yum RHN auto-updates broken

Asked by Leif Neve

After installing some IUS packages a week ago, my yum automatic updates from RHN stopped working.
Here is a snippet from messages which points to the likely IUS update that caused the problem.
You see below that after adding two packages from IUS, there is an hourly error generated
which is presumably when yum is doing its hourly updates. I have the same problem on two different
servers:

Jul 26 16:34:42 ceb-stage-lx yum: Installed: yum-plugin-replace.noarch 0.1-1.el5
Jul 26 16:34:42 ceb-stage-lx yum: Updated: ius-release.noarch 1.0-5.ius.el5
Jul 26 17:34:33 ceb-stage-lx : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'
Jul 26 18:34:33 ceb-stage-lx : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'
Jul 26 19:34:33 ceb-stage-lx : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'
[above line repeated every hour]
.
.
.

Anyone else reporting this problem? Is there a workaround? Thanks.

Leif,

What version of Yum are you running?

I'm not using the yum-updatesd service either but I can confirm I see the same behavior when enabling yum-updatesd:

Aug 5 20:26:43 web : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'
Aug 5 20:29:12 web : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'
Aug 5 20:31:29 web : error initializing: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'add_option'

Can you please just confirm that this doesn't happen when yum-plugin-replace is disabled? You can disable it in:

/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/replace.conf

Errors go away and yum auto-updates are successful when it's disabled.
