Save as a .dxf file doesn't work

Asked by Jolanda

Today I've downloaded and installed Inkscape .47.
Using .46 went OK, but I would like to have the newest version.
Now I can't save my work as a .dxf-file.
Yes....I can save as a dxf file, but when I check the folder were I parked the file, it has turned into a PSP file. But opening with PSP doesn't work.
And my ROBOmaster cannot open the PSP-file.
So; is it a bug?
Or am I doing something wrong?
I use Windows XP sp 3 home edition.

I think you may have found a bug. I have not used this for a long time. When I try the Desktop Cutting Plotter output, I get a Postscript window coming up, which should not happen. When I cancel out of the Postscript window and retry the output, then the normal RoboMaster window comes up and then the output works normally.

I suspect there is a conflict between the two types of .dxf that are supported, will check it out tonight, maybe they are using the same namespace. Have to go to work now...

Don't know how and why, but in .46 he saves the item as a PSP file, with an
icon from Robo Master. In .47 it saves as a PSP file with a PSP icon. But
Robomaster can open this file without problems.
So the problem is that you're being tricked...
Thanks for your attention!

now I am a little confused. Inkscape does not support the .PSP extension as far as I know. Are you typing in the file name with a .dxf at the end, so the file name says something like 'stuff.dxf' and the File Type says 'Desktop Cutting Plotter (R13) (*.dxf)'? And when you click on Save does it come up with a window asking you to 'enable RoboMaster output'? In that case you should be okay.
In any event I have not been able to reproduce the problem I had this morning. I saw a postscript window this morning where it should not have been, but it went away and has not returned, so my machine is also back to normal.

When I save, I type the only the name.
In the window below that, I choose the filetype . DXF.
Then, after clicking "save" a black window pops up, disappears and then the window 'enable RoboMaster output' pops up.
I close Inkscape (because with the 0.46 version I could not run Inkscape and Robomaster at the same time!) and start up Robomaster.
When I want to import the saved dxf-file I browse in the place were I saved it....and can not find a dxf-file...only a PSPfile.
When I open this file, it is empty.
When I open this file with PaintShopPro, I get a message that there is something wrong and "do I want to report this error?"

When I reported this may-be-bug, I worked on another file.
And - I don't know what I have done (I thougt nothing :-) - suddenly I could open it with Robomaster.
So I thougt may be I've done something wrong.
But now I started a new project and I'm having the same problem...
Curious, isn't it?

if you have a file that RoboMaster cannot read, then it would be best to report this as a bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape and attach the file that is causing the problem

as far as I know, it is not possible to attach files to these questions, so I would recommend that you open a bug report instead. We will need to see the file that you are saving.
You can open a bug report at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bugs
It would be very helpful if you could also specify:
- which OS
- which version of Inkscape
- attach original svg file that you are trying to convert to dxf
- attach the saved file which was saved as dxf

Can you help with this problem?
