Feathering

Asked by seanrussell

To whom it may concern,

Im trying to merge a few pictures together to make a calloge (sp?) of my favorite artists. My issue is I don't know how to use the pen or brush tool to feather edges. Could you maybe help me out. Details are of importance.

Edit:
I have all the pictures in seperate layers, and a simple background layer that is black.

Thanks,

Sean Russell

You can do feathering by using a blurred mask. Draw a shape over the image. Open the Fill and Stroke dialog (Shift+Ctrl+F) and give it a white fill, no stroke, and some blur (maybe about 10%). Then select the image and the blurred white shape and set mask (from the menu: Object -> Mask -> Set).

For more on masking, see the manual: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip-Masking.html

Can you help with this problem?
