Apple/Cmd Key as Modifier

Asked by gaffa

I am finding using Inscape, after native OS X applications such as Pixelmator, somewhat of a trial. There because with the four possible modifiers Ctl/Alt/Shift/Cmd in OS X, I am able to set up more one-key and two-adjacent-key shortcuts. This is almost vital to me due to physical immobility of some fingers. On inkscape I am limited to three modifiers.

I know I can re-assign support keys, and even map the Ctl key to the Cmd key. But there are still only three modifiers.

I don't know if this is an Inkscape only limitation, or if it is inherited from X11. X11 has the Cmd keys defined as Meta_L and Meta_R. Is getting these recognised by Inkscape a Development issue, or a possible User mod?

Currently many points in the source code have hardcoded masks and values for modifiers. We need to change that to be dynamic. Once that is done, remapping of modifiers will be feasible for end users.

This will be quite a help for OS X users.

Can you help with this problem?
