The eraser tool is a new feature of Inkscape 0.47 and does not yet exist in the previous version Inkscape 0.46.
<http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47#Eraser_Tool>
<http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Eraser.html>

You can download Inkscape 0.47 packages for win32 and osx from <http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.47/>.

Thank you for your reply. The Inkscape 0.47 download is listed for Leopard and I am using Tiger.

And you write:

 "The eraser tool is a new feature of Inkscape 0.47 and does not yet exist in the previous version Inkscape 0.46."

You seem to be implying with "yet" that Inkscape 0.46 might get the eraser tool in the future—or did you just mean it doesn't have the eraser tool?

Will Inkscape 0.46 be the last version for Tiger?

Thank you.

Sorry if my answer was ambiguous ;)

a) No, the eraser tool is only available in Inkscape 0.47 and will not be added to Inkscape 0.46.
b) There are no official packages for Tiger available, but the plan is to support Inkscape 0.47 on Tiger with universal builds. The reason for the delay is lack of resources by the osx packagers (access to Tiger and time).

Do you have Tiger PPC or i386?

I have Tiger PPC and will check later to see if Inkscape 0.47 becomes available for it.

Although this doesn't solve my problem "yet" it does answer my question.

Thank you and all those who support and provide Inkscape—it's a remarkable program/tool.

If you are interested in testing Inkscape 0.47 for Tiger PPC:
<http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/32417>

Note: this is not yet an official build - so far we are still looking for testers to confirm its stability on different systems. If you feel up to testing it - feedback would be welcome, either here or on the mailing lists (inkscape-user or inkscape-devel). And it could be helpful to report bugs related to running Inkscape 0.47 on your platform (MacOS X Tiger PPC) in the bug tracker:

I downloaded and installed Wolf Drechsel's build of Inkscape 0.47 X11 for Mac PPC Tiger. It seems stable and I can now resize the Inkscape window vertically which I couldn't do in Inkscape 0.46.

Wolf Drechsel wrote: "Thanks a lot to our friend ~suv, who guided every of my very wobbly steps with great skill and patience."

I too thank you very much ~suv for your work and assistance.
