Inkscape

cannot save in 0.47

I installed 0.47 today and was able to create and save some files. I was not able to save files however that I created and that had either bitmaps or other objects imported into them or had more than the root layer. When I try to save a file in any format, the save window shows up, I click on save, but nothing happens. I do not get any error message. I am able to export my work to a bitmap file. I am also able to reopen already saved files and save changes to them.

Is there something I'm missing or should be doing differently to be able to save these files? I'm not an absolute beginner as I have used Inkscape in the past, but that was a while ago.

Yes, we need to know the environment you're trying to run Inkscape in, including the operating system type and version.

Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Service Pack 2 installed (and all updates since). System is a Samsung Notebook with Intel T5250 1.50GHz, 2GB RAM.

When saving, do you notice a message in the status bar (should be "Document saved")?
