Instals but won't run

Windows 2000, 256Mb, SP4, Inkscape 0.47

Installation appears to work and shortcuts created. Attempting to start program creates initial window outline on screen immediately followed by Application Error: Instruction at 0x00432718 referenced memory at 0x0000000c. Memory could not be 'read'.

This problem is undoubtedly my PC but....

I did instal 0.47 once (after a day's PC usage) and it worked! The following day it would not start. During uninstalling it told me that some python files had been rewritten since installing. Every instal after that has not worked and no uninstal has given the same message.

I do get an extension-errors.log file which starts:

Extension "Dia Input" failed to load because a dependency was not met.
Dependency:
  type: executable
  location: extensions
  string: dia2svg.sh
  description: The dia2svg.sh script should be installed with your Inkscape distribution. If you do not have it, there is likely to be something wrong with your Inkscape installation.

...and continues on this way for DXF, EPS, LaTeX etc.

Any thoughts?

Hi Brian,

The only similar bug report ever reported in LP is rather old, and I'm not sure it is really relevant.

It's more likely to be a Windows problem. I've found this link: http://tech.kateva.org/2006/11/memory-could-not-be-read-anatomy-of.html which may help you a bit.
