welded words cut into pieces

Asked by KarenM

When I used a previous version of Inkscape I was able to create script words and they all cut out as one piece. I upgraded to the current version yesterday, now when I try and import the word into RoboMaster the letters are all cut out separately rather than 1 welded word. Previously I created the word in Inkscape text, then went to 'object to path' and finally union. I now get a message saying 'one of the objects is not a path cannot perform boolean operation - please tell me what I am doing wrong :(

This is because "object to path" now creates a group of paths, which needs to be ungrouped before doing a union.

But there's a simpler way: don't even do "object to path", just union the text itself!
