nodes not allowing shaping

I have drawn several lines using the pen tool. When I select nodes to 'shape' the lines the red path line moves but the drawn line remains straigth. Hope someone can help

It looks as if you created those lines in 'Spiro' mode. If you don't want that, remove the 'Spiro' path effect with menu 'Path > Remove Path Effect' and you can node-edit the path as expected. OTOH if you *want* the Spiro effect you need to select the nodes and change their type to 'Smooth'. Line segments between two cusp nodes with no handles are always drawn as straight lines in Spiro mode.
