How to print business cards from Inkscape to Avery Template 8371

Asked by reastman

What is the easiest / format to get a log designed in Inkscape onto a business card to print out on an Avery Business card template 8371? this is proving to be much more difficult that I expected. I created a business card using the business card template in Inkscape, but am now finding it very difficult to find out how to print this as as a series of business cards using Avery's 8371 template. Thanks much.

I know this isn't exactly the answer that you want to hear, and it shames me to admit it, but sometimes I like to export my work to another program and then do the printing there. In this case I would save/export the data and place it into either Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer and then print from there. I say this because you specifically mentioned the Avery product and the Avery templates already exist and are easy to use in the word processing application(s). Good luck!

As for GreatScott I tend to output a business card (with bleed) and then use Scribus to layout a page and add a PNG image to the scribus file ready for printing. Usually I'll print by exporting to PDF and using Adobe Reader as it seems to have a better printer interface than either Scribus or Inkscape.

GreatScott, pbhj, thanks very much for your insight. GreatScott, yes, my plan was to try to export to Microsoft Word. I have yet to perfect the technique for exporting it to Microsoft word in such way that it formats easily for an Avery template. In lieu thereof, so far I am struggling through a laborious process of resizing the graphic to fit the Avery template. I guess I need to pre-determine the size, in pixels that will fit nicely into the upper LH corner of the Avery template. I am a little surprised that Inkscape - with its businesas card template - does nto have these Avery templates loaded so that I can jst do this directly from Inkscape. How much time this wold save!

Just use glabels instead :) Every possible template is supported, and the app is free to use.

Maybe this tutorial helps? <http://blog.worldlabel.com/2009/business-card-tutorial-in-inkscapeorg.html> - it's not based on an Avery template, but the principle is the same: create a layout with guides, one original card, the rest are clones of the original...

…and sites like <http://www.fileformat.info/tool/label/index.htm> let you create PF templates for Avery labels. It may help you to print your business cards on Avery labels directly from Inkscape.

Can you help with this problem?
