cut foreground people only from photo

Asked by GreatScott

i wish to trace/cut the foreground portion of a photo which contains two people and eliminate the background entirely. i tried tracing manually etc... using bezier curves but no luck getting the foreground chunk cut out. i know that this is possible but just no clue what sequence of actions will give me the result i desire... thanks for your help!

As I understand you need clipping. Inkscape have clip function. First you
need to draw clipping path (bezier or whatever), then select both image and
path and choose Object->Clip->Set.

Is that what you need?

I absolutely wouldn't do this with Inkscape, use The GIMP, it's got tools for just this purpose.
