Text placement in text boxes

Asked by Steve Ylvisaker

When I flow text into a text box the text that I key extends above the text box. Is there a setting that I am missing that would cause the text to align with the top of the box or is this just the way it is.

The horizontal position for text is calculated by text height values specified in font and/or linespacing values below 100%. Try using some other font or bigger linespacing.
As a hack you try Alt + Arrowkeys when cursor is in the beginning of the line to add kerning.

Mahfiaz - thanks for the hack but Alt + Arrowkeys made had no impact on the placement of my text in the text box. I guess I just need to know that there is a reason why text flows above the text box so that I can write it up as a known problem or known "feature". Is this really the way text is intended to appear when flown in a text box?

What version of Inkscape you use?
Does it happen with all or some of the fonts?
Can you reproduce it with simple steps on a clean document?

Can you help with this problem?
