how can you shadow text?

wondering if you can shadow with the basic version

What you mean under 'basic' version? Stable 0.46?

If so, as far as I can remember it haven't Filters, so you need to do
shadows by hand.

I think this is very basic examples, so you achieve that results with
easy. Just use Copy (or Duplicate), Transformation (Path ->
Transformation -> Skew), Mirror.
