when I try create pdf of an a1 page I only get part on an a4 Why?

when I try create pdf of an a1 page I only get part on an a4 Why? The page and graphics are fitted onto
and with in page 1 size on both of my computors, but when I try to convert to Pdf the one computor produces only part of the a1 to portrait a4 and the other is landscape a4, almost like a default is set. When printing, although my printer is only a4, and opening in office document imaging and other windows programmes this is also happening. I have reduced to a4 size and converted to pdf but when you come to print to a1 the resolution is of pour quality.

inkscape produces a pdf of the page not the complete drawing. So if your drawing extends your page you will see only a part of them on the pdf.
Try increasing the document page.
What would be helpful for further investigations is to see the document.
