Can't email an .svg file

Asked by Pops

I'm trying to send an .svg file created in Inkscape by Gmail. When I attach the file to the email it is tagged CGD Test.svg but when the email is opened there is a blank web page with the following address: https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=c9c72c4dc2&view=att&th=12386133a67108ab&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_fz76z8c30&zw and no vector graphic. Am I doing something wrong or does the recipient need Inkscape?

An SVG file is just a text file; whilst your question seems best directed to the support system for your email program you may want to try changing the filename extension (eg CGD_test.txt) - it sounds to me like you're trying to open the attachment sent in a browser. If you're using IE8 without having, say, the Adobe SVG reader installed then this will fail.

Opera and Firefox (and I think the webkit browsers Konqueror and Safari, and probably Chrome) will display SVG images pretty well but won't handle the more complex filters and things.

You can email me the image at "test [47] alicious [dot] com" if you like and I'll check it over.

Let me know here if you decide to do so as I'll probably have to fish it out of the spam filter.

Can you help with this problem?
