menu 'File > Document Properties…' on the 'Page' tab under section 'General' choose your 'Default units'

Does it work now? Doesn't in my version of 0.47 - the units change but the rulers are always displayed in the same units, px I think it is.

It worked for me in 0.46, the problem was that there is more than one place in the UI to 'change the units', but only one of these is the one you want for changing the ruler.

@pbhj - I checked and confirmed with 0.46-2 and current SVN builds (r21973, r22011) on OS X 10.5.8 - what SVN revision / OS do you use?

Ahh, how long have I been doing it wrong ... I was attempting, on that same page tab, to set the units using the "custom size" section and have been trying to change it there since I don't know when. But I've got it now, thanks for pointing out my error.

I think that this just points out that the current layout, wording, ect., could be clearer. I looked at the same dialog box and had the same misunderstanding that pbhj did.

@ike9898 - if you think the interface needs to be improved - please file a bug report (describe it as wishlist or RFE) and attach a mockup of the improved properties dialog.
