Failed to load the requested file C:\Documents and Settings\Kim\My Documents\SCAL Fonts\ABC-Fonts\Aquarelle.ttf

Asked by kmeubank

I am trying to open a font in Inkscape that I downloaded from a website. When I try to open it, I get the following error:

Failed to load the requested file C:\Documents and Settings\Kim\My Documents\SCAL Fonts\ABC-Fonts\Aquarelle.ttf

I have also loaded it into my windows - fonts folder but can't open it from there either. I am using Inkscape 0.46.

Inkscape can't do anything with a TTF file as far as I know.

In order to use a font you must install it in your operating system. I don't use Windows really anymore so I can't tell you how to install fonts in Vista or Win7; if you're using WinXP then you have to copy the font to the FONTS folder and also install it, right-click the font file and I think the option is there, or possibly in a Tools or Options menu on the menubar.

Once installed then your font should appear in the fonts list when using the text tool. I think Inkscape does a check and only uses fonts that meet some standard, so not all fonts are usable (correct me if I'm wrong, perhaps I'm thinking of Scribus).

If you still can't install the font you should ask in a MS Windows forum about that as this Answers forum is specific to Inkscape.

Inkscape isn't a font editor. It does not and should not open TTF files from any location.

Can you help with this problem?
