Inkscape and formats, PowerPoint compatability.

Asked by catherinew

I don't know too much about the technical aspects of SVG programs, but I am having some difficulty. I am running Inkscape on a G5 Mac with OSX 10.3.9. I have created a very complex figure and saved in .eps for submission for publication (required by publisher) We now want to modify the original figure and use that modified version in a Power Point presentation. However, PP does not show the .eps images in the slide show.

How/what format can I save this figure in so that I can insert it into the presentation? I have exported as .png, and the resolution is terrible, can this be modified. I have also saved as .pdf (too poor resolution in PP), .svg (PPcan't open), .ps (same as .eps). In a similar question, someone suggested EMF format? What is this and how can I save this way as it is not in the pull down field under "save" nor in the Export options?

This is sort of a pressing issue as we need to take this talk to a meeting soon,.....

Thanks, if you need more information, I understand.

Cathy

When exporting to bitmap (menu 'File > Export Bitmap…'), you can set the dpi value of the resulting bitmap in the export dialog - did you try to increase it (e.g. to 300 or 600 dpi )? Inkscape's default value is 90 dpi.
Has PP limitations with regard to the resolution of imported bitmaps?

'EMF' - Enhanced (Windows) Metafile <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Metafile> is not supported out-of-the-box by Inkscape 0.46, nor is it a format commonly used on Mac OS X. Inkscape 0.47 will have WMF as supported output format - but I doubt there will be a Panther build of 0.47.

Can you help with this problem?
