Why can't I do a Linear Gradient on a group of text?

Asked by Scott

I'm able to apply a Fill, Radial Gradient, and Pattern to 2 or more text that are grouped together, but it won't do a Linear Gradient.

I cannot reproduce your problem (with Inkscape 0.47pre1) -
- neither with multiple text objects grouped with the command 'Object > Group'
- nor with a 'Flowed text' object containing several lines
- nor when using 'Text > Flow into Frame' to link a text object to a shape.

How did you 'group' the text objects?
Can you reproduce it in a new drawing with newly created text objects?

I'm grouping 2 text objects by using the command 'Object > Group' if your first scenario. I am using Inkscape 0.46.

Strange.

I just unpacked the 0.46 version (on OS X), and I still can apply a linear gradient to a group of 2 or more text objects. So I doubt it's a bug in 0.46. (anyone?)

Do you use the 'Stroke and Fill…' dialog to edit the fill of the group?
Does changing the font face and style (in the 'Text and Font…' dialog) influence the result?
Any clips/masks or effects involved?

Try to edit the gradient on canvas:
- select the group with the linear gradient as fill
- select the 'Gradient' tool from the toolbox on the left
- adjust the linear gradient start point (small square as marker) and end point (small circle as marker)
to the size of the grouped text

Can you help with this problem?
