Does inkscape have an eraser?

I've never used it, but google should be able to answer your question. This is what I found:

"Using the Stroke paint tab, you can remove the stroke (outline) of the object, or assign any color or transparency to it"

But don't forget that removing the stroke/fill doesn't remove (erase) an object, just makes it invisible... The method described in the forum topic really removes (parts of) the objects just as the eraser tool in the upcoming version 0.47 does: <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47#Eraser_Tool>.
