Can't move object on another object

I'm trying to move one object on top of another, but when I try to do that, the object that is supposed to be on top, disappears behind the bottom objects boundaries. This does not happen all the time, but I don't know why it happens. Thanks.

See menu 'Help > Tutorials > Inkscape: Basic' and look for the section 'Z-order' (best: read the whole tutorial page ;-).

SVG objects are stacked according to their order of creation (last one goes on top). You can then change this stack order by selecting an object and using the commands 'Raise', 'Lower', 'Raise to Top' and 'Lower to Bottom' in the menu 'Object'' or one of the corresponding buttons in the Tool Controls Bar.

Thanks. The 'Lower to Bottom' function worked just fine.
