Where can I get a basic understanding of all the "Path" commands?

Asked by steph

I am new to Inkscape - already think it's brilliant-but I just cannot understand what all the commands in "Path" do. I am using Windows XP & am fairly computer literate but not an expert. I need a simple explanation of all these commands. Thanks so much.

I have seen the tutorials videos, but couldn't find one that covered this subject.

You could start with the included tutorials: open menu 'Tutorials > Inkscape: Advanced' and look for the section 'Boolean operations' for a basic introduction. Better yet work through all tutorials - they are compact and quick to read.

For more detailed information you could then continue with
- 'A Guide to Inkscape' by Tavmjong Bah,
  online version at <http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php>
(Chapter 7 about 'Paths' at <http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths.html>)

- or the browse the FLOSS Manual 'Inkscape' at <http://en.flossmanuals.net/Inkscape>.
The currrent version is less detailed & in depth than Tavmjongs book, but offers a good introduction into the basic tasks.

Another source for Inkscape related information is of course its home page and the Wiki at <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Inkscape>.
