There's no reason to convert text to path just for getting a drop shadow.

To add a drop shadow, select the object, then go to Filters > Shadows and Glows > Drop shadow .

You can also duplicate the object, change its color and blur it.

I'm not sure why you would need to convert text to path here, but you can do so with Path > Object to Path.

Hi,
convert a text line into object, apply Path > Object to Path (or Shift+Ctrl+c ), 2> then appy 'Path>Dynamic offset' (or Ctrl+J ). The text line (let's say "test") can be converted to path.
