can Inkscape smooth a sketch

After scanning an image that was hand drawn, I need to smooth it so that curves look better.

Depending on the image, Path > Simplify may be enough (can be applied repeatedly). Use the node tool to move specific nodes and to smoothe them out. In some cases, a manual redrawing is the better way to do this, though.
