Difficult to find crop tool

If I import a bmp image I can't find simply how to crop the image down to a particular size. Lets say I have a large bmp and only need half of it. How do I crop away the unwanted half?

It would be better if you use a raster image editor like gimp to crop your image and then import it in inkscape to do your vector work.

you can do it in inkscape this way:
draw a rectangle that covers the part of the bmp that you want to keep, select both the rectangle and the bmp Object menu> Clip > Set
