How to resize document from pixels to millimeters?

Asked by David Tselnik

Before making an Inkscape Document (Figure, Picture), I set in Document Properties sizes in px (pixels), Width 200 and Height 100 px. Now I have this document (Figure), and I want it become of a certain size in millimeters (mm), say Width 80 mm and Height 40 mm. Can I do that and, if yes, then how? Or maybe there is no way to do that resizing, and I simply need to make this document anew stating its size in Document Properrties dialog as Width 80 mm and Height 40 mm from the very beginning?

Open the document properties again, and select a different size for the page. This will not change the size of the contents, you will need to select that and resize manually. To change the unit used for the rulers, and the default unit used for number entry fields, change the 'Display unit' (or 'document unit') in the top right corner of the dialog.

Hello,

Thank you for answering my question.
1. You write that I should open the Document Properties again and select a different size for the page. This I can do. I can give the size for the Width and for the Height in millimeters now (not in pixels, as I did before). And I definitely can indicate Units in the Custom section in mm and the Display Units in mm too. Should I set the Scale x to 1.0?
2. Now, you also write that I should "select that and resize manually." This I completely do not know how to do. (I am just learning Inkscape now.) If you would tell me how to do that "select and resize manually, I would be very thankful. David Tselnik.

Hi David,

if you're not using the file for CNC (plotting, cutting, ...), then it's best to not change the scale value.

To select everything in all layers:

Edit > Select all in all layers or Ctrl+Alt+A

To change the size of the selection (without changing the width/height ration):

Hold Ctrl, and with the selection tool, drag on the resize handles.

Also you might be interested in reading/following some tutorials or manuals.
