Regroup objects after running an extension

Hey everyone I am working on an extension that adds labels to objects and would like to know if there is a way to either group the objects after the extension runs or keep the objects selected after the extension runs any help would be appreciated thank you

In Inkscape 0.92.3, there is no way to change the document *after* an extension has run, and objects are deselected automatically.

In future versions (from 1.0 on), objects will stay selected. There is even a rudimentary Live Path Effect that adds labels to objects (but doesn't seem to allow to position the text, and the text stays in place when the object is moved...and it cannot be removed again ?!?).

You can group objects from within the extension.

Do you have any examples of grouping objects in an extension, a code snippet or an existing extension?

Interpolate, for example. Many others in the 'Render' submenu, too.
