How could I create an inner-toothed gear?

Asked by Lance Martin

I'm attempting lay-out work with planetary gear-set design … but can't figure-out how the heck to RENDER the annul gear...
specifically- that gear is supposed to have inward facing teeth & so far I'm perplexed?!?
Thanks for any assistance you may be able to enlighten me with.
Respectfully,
Lance Martin

Didn't read it all, but you may find the info you need here:

https://github.com/jnweiger/inkscape-gears-dev/issues/7
(I think the extension from that repository on github can create them directly, quoting jnweiger:
"A ring gear is trivially created, when number of spokes is 0 and the mount diameter is larger than the outer diameter. ") Just install, and then do whatever the above means....

Thank you very much. Your suggested answer(s) were right on target. And for your part & the most uncommon selfless consideration shown; that's appreciated more than I can communicate, but as for me... I think this exercise is showing me how nice the program Inkscape really is, because those explanations... the ones I believe could work... I'm thinking one would have to be Mensa brilliant to fathom such postulation. No... I trudge on through the proverbial fog & keep my awareness up for that hopeful coincidence of chance which might bring me my answer. Sooo, thanks and wish me a little luck.
Respectfully,
Lance Martin

Good luck :)

Installing and using the new extension doesn't require a Mensa membership.

Installation is explained here:
https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#how-install-new-extensions-palettes-document-templates-symbol-sets-icon-sets-etc)

or, shorter, on the extension's home page here:
https://github.com/jnweiger/inkscape-gears-dev

And then after installation, you reopen Inkscape, use the new extension (setting 'number of spokes' to 0, and making the 'mount diameter' value larger than the one for 'outer diameter'), set your number of teeth etc. and click on Apply.

You know Mr. Hachmann,
Some days are better than others! I actually did run across a coincidence of grace & found an instruction/suggestion which a third grader could grasp!!! Not to say that I am a third grader, but I tend to handle that sort of conceptual interpretation better when the task I was doing prior to this dilemma popping-up had me stepping into realms outside the proverbial box in the first place.
Anyway, the answer boiled down to... entering a quantitative value for the "Center Hole/Shaft Mount" that was a couple of inches greater than the original OD of the tooth configuration.... Walla!
Thanks so much for lending your time to this though. As I said earlier, your kindness is truly appreciated, and I will try to pay the good-will of your efforts forward. Really!

Lance Martin
