text box with white background?

Asked by Thomas Jones

I am trying to create a text box with white background. I can make text but the background is clear. my boxes are clear. In other software products like Coreldraw, I would create a white text box, place the text over the box, center and group.
How can I accomplish this with IS? Im editing a pdf with an image.

In Inkscape, you draw a white box, then place the text above it.

You can center them by using the Object > Align + Distribute dialog.

You can glue the two items together by grouping them.

Inkscape is not a tool specifically designed for mindmap or diagramming, it's a general purpose vector drawing tool - which explains why Corel Draw offers to add colorizable text boxes, and Inkscape does not.

Thank you Maren,

My box is clear and I cant't figure out how toset it to a white fill or background.

I am editing a pdf poster.

I use mindnode for my mind mapping.

Click on the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle to create a 'box'. Choose the color from the palette.

If you'd like to learn more about the different tools Inkscape offers, you can start in the Help > Tutorials menu, with the basic, shapes and advanced ones.

There's also a beginners' guide available here:

Or a shorter introduction here:
