Reverse the clipping

Asked by Hymer on 2018-06-20

I want to hold the bigger object and clip a rectangular hole in it. I draw a rectangle upon the bigger object, select both object and after clipping I get only the field of the rectangle, the rest of the bigger object disappears.
I should like to keep the rest and clip off the rectangular hole. How can I do this?

You can use an object with a hole in it for clipping, or a mask, with a white area for the hole, and a black area for the rest of the object. Make sure to make the clip object large enough to cover the other object completely.

The next major Inkscape version will come with a path effect for inverse clipping.
