edit color using hex color codes

Is there a way to edit colors using hex color codes. When I right click on a color in the palette the edit option is inactive. Please advise. Thank you.

The palette colors themselves cannot be edited, palettes are fixed by a file.

But you can edit the color of any object, when you open the fill+stroke dialog.

There's an entry field for the hex code in the right corner below the color sliders.
