Set svg tag id during editing or export

Asked by John Schram

I was attempting to set attributes on the SVG root tag, specifically the id. I wasn't able to find a way to do this via the UI using things like document properties, object properties, etc. Eventually, I found the XML editor and I could do it there, but I was wondering if A) I missed something B) This is by design or C) It's a bug/feature request.

A) No, you didn't miss anything (unless you want the same id for all your templates, then you can make a custom template).

B) It is as it is. Nobody ever asked for this, as far as I know. I guess there aren't many people who need it, and that those who do will be able to use the XML editor, which is there for cases like these.

C) To make a feature request (best with a suggestion how/where to set the ID in the GUI), please visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape .

Fair enough. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll keep using inkscape for a
while before deciding if it's worth submitting as a feature request, but as
I've been thinking about this for the last day it occurred to me that
adding the document as a node on the object list would probably solve the
problem. Although I'm sure that would come with its own issues.

I have no idea if that might be causing any problems - best to let developers decide. But it's good if you can already come up with a suggestion for a solution.
