How do you animate in Inkscape?

Asked by Zech

Clueless, unaware, no idea. I got the animate exstension in inkscape, and I have no idea how to use it. Isn't there supposed to be some timeline where I can see all my frames? And where can I see a preview of my animation? And where's the onion skin? If Inkscape cant make animations I could call the fire department! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!!!! I DONT KNOW HOW TO ANIMATE WITH INKSCAPE!!! please help :)

Look for the instructions for the specific extension you found (there are multiple and they all work differently).

I got mine from code.google.com https://code.google.com/archive/p/inkscape-animation-extension/
I read the instructions but everytime I use it it says; "there is no linked images." whatever that means. Maybe I need a new extension. Whatever he has on

That's the extension I've been looking for.

Oh! Got it. I use the YouTube app and it's hard to find a videos description, but I found it. It's that little triangle button. I read the description, it helped a lot. But I haven't used it yet. I'll let you know if it goes out okay.

Okay question: what files am I supposed to copy to program files/ inkscape/ share/ extensions? Do I copy the files in the src folder again? Downloading that gave me a large zip folder with a lot of files.

You don't copy files for this, you compile Inkscape. It's not an extension.

There is also this open source web app I made for doing SVG frame animation: https://svgflipbook.com/

You don't need an Inkscape extension you just load the same SVG file in Inkscape and in the app and edit away. You can even export your animated SVG.

Hey there! No need to panic – I've got you covered. To access the animation features in Inkscape, go to 'Extensions' > 'Animation' and then select 'Animate Editor.' This should open a timeline for your frames. You can preview your animation by going to 'View' > 'Animation Preview.' As for onion skin, check 'View' > 'Onion Skins.' Take a deep breath – you've got this for further check https://try-neotonics.us/
