Is it possible for clipping mask to apply to layers instead of objects?

Asked by Zech

I cant find out how to do clipping and masking for layers instead of objects! It's so frustrating. With Adobe illustrator I can do clipping mask with Layers instead of just one object, I was hoping I could do the same with Inkscape. Please Help Me....

Short answer: yes.

Longer: answer: The objects panel can be used to convert a layer to a group, and groups can be clipped.

Longest answer: Inkscape is different... it edits svg files natively. Layers are actually svg groups with a special notation that Inkscape uses to organize objects similar to how other vector illustration programs do.

Hi,
In the Objects panel there are tiny tiny tiny icons that indicate if a group is flagged as a layer. They are in Column T, as in Toggle... the icon also can be clicked to switch between Layer and Group.

Thanks, I get it now. I'm kinda new to inkscape. I haven't really got to know all about it.
