Repositioning Effects dialog boxes

Asked by DashTwo

In Inkscape Preferences, I selected “Remember and use last window’s geometry (size and position).” When I use “Create Tiled Clones” and “Object Properties” and reposition the dialog box, the next time I use them they open in the same position I moved them to last time. This is very energy and time saving because I don’t like using those boxes when they are in the center of the screen and always moved them myself before finding the preference which keeps them in their new position.

My question is why doesn’t Effects work the same way? I use various Effects frequently and really wish that their dialog boxes would stay where I want them in order to save time and energy.

I just noticed that the File/Open window also does not keep a new position.

I don't know, but it's probably down to your window manager. In KDE3 / kDE4 (and I'm sure Gnome too) you can force any metric related to any window that you can differentiably specify. Use left-click on the application logo (usually top left of the applications title bar) and choose Advanced > Special Window Settings, configure in the dialog what you want the window to do. You can make the configuration highly specific or apply it to a general class of windows.

Windows Vista Home premium

When I click on the Inkscape logo, the options are Restore, Move, Size,
Minimize, Maximize, and Close.

Inkscape preferences has no influence on the dialog boxes in question.

Problem not solved.

maybe it's a bug,
try a development version to see if it behaves the same way
http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D

you'll need 7zip to unpack the file
http://7-zip.org/

if this behaviour persists, you might consider filing a bug in the bug sections.

Can you help with this problem?
