Choosing Stroke color with cursor

Asked by John Morgan

Does Inkscape allow choosing stroke color with the cursor? When in the Fill and Stroke dialog and on the Stroke tab, I use the cursor in the color pallet at the bottom of the page and then the fill is what changes. Is this the normal process?

Thanks,

John...

Yep, the palette at the bottom is for stroke or fill... shift-click for stroke, click for fill on the selected objects. No need to open the fill/stroke panel to use those. Colors can be dragged from the palette onto non-selected objects for fill, shift-drag and drop to change stroke on non selected objects.

Thanks Tyler.
I'm new to this type of stuff. I read my butt off looking for that answer. Getting to know the terminology will take me a bit. So I went back into the online manual and there it was, right where I was reading. Just didn't understand it all. Inkscape is getting to be fun but sometimes when stuck, it is frustrating.

Try this manual (not polished yet, but meant for beginners and contains everything a beginner needs):

also, most of the time you have useful info in the status bar : When you hover the palette at the bottom of the page, the message is "color:#0000; click to set fill, shift+click to set stroke"
