ungrouping a .DXF

down loaded a .DXF file that I need to ungroup but can't get ungrouping to work.
The file I loaded into inkscape that I want to save as a .DXF to run on my laser cutter. It has two item one is for 4mm wood & 1/8" wood I need to separate them so I can run then separate time since they are so big. how do I cut them apart to do this. then save tthem as a .DXF.

What does it say in the status line at the bottom when you have selected the object you want to ungroup with the selection tool (first tool that looks like a mouse cursor)?

So then, they are not a group, but most probably a single path, consisting of multiple subpaths. Try Path -> Break apart.

Select the path, then go to the menu: Path -> Break apart.

If that does not do what you need, please share the file.
You can use any filehoster for this, e.g. google drive, dropbox, or, if you don't know any, use http://framadrop.org/.
Then please post a link in your next answer.

Do not try to attach it to your email. That will not work.
