When loading file, entire screen/program shrinks to 25%

Windows 8.1, 4 gig ram, dual 3.1 gig processors, inkscape .92; View-Large; Screen~30"HDTV; Situation: Program open>click file>Open>click on any picture file in the list>it loads to PNG Bitmap dialog window opens>I click OK> then the entire program itself shrinks down to about 25% the size of the screen with the picture in it. I've tried this a number of ways and it appears to be doing this with at least two formats (JPG, PNG) but not any SVG files. Is this normal or a simple glitch or what?
