setugid crash when opening file via icon or doubleclick on SVG file

Asked by Fabian Egli

Dear Inkscapers,

Since some time Inkscape crashes on a OS X El Capitan machine when opening files in certain ways.

I can open Inkscape, draw something and save it. However, when I try to open that exact same drawing I just saved (by double clicking it), Inkscape starts starting up, the Inkscape icon appears in the Dock but then Inkscape crashes without opening any window. When I start Inkscape again, without opening a file it starts up normally. If I then try to open the file by dragging it onto the Inkscape Icon, a new Inkscape Window opens for a second and then disappears again, while the window with the blank drawing from startup remains open.

However, I can open the file from the File menu in Inkscape.

The following line is from the system.log in From the /var/log:
inkscape-bin[pid]: The application with bundle ID (null) is running setugid(), which is not allowed.

I am using Mac OS 10.11.6 (15G1611), Inkscape 0.92.2 5c3e80d, 2017-08-06, XQuartz 2.7.11 (xorg-server 1.18.4) and I have MacPorts installed.

If someone wants to track/fix the issue I am happy to provide further details.
