stroke to path with crossing lines - can't get it to do what I want

Asked by andrea k

I created an image made of strokes with parallel lines that cross at several points. (1) I did convert to path, adjusting width of the stroke to define the width of the newly created paths. I wound up with an outline of all edges (2), but I wanted to create "weaving" (overlapping) bands (3rd)

3 attachments -
1st - image made up of lines/strokes
2nd - image after converted strokes to path.
3rd - Trying to get the strokes to make a path that weaves something like this.

Is there a way to tell inkscape to convert lines to look like #3 instead of #2?

How do you attach svg files or insert pics to these questions?
Launchpad isn't as user freiendly as the old system for me :(

Inkscape 0.92
Windows 10

Hi Andrea,

not sure which 'old system' you mean?... There haven't been any changes here in the last 10 years or so.

If you need to ask a question that requires graphical explanations, perhaps you'd prefer using the forum at inkscapeforum.com?

You can also upload your image files to a file hoster, and share a link here, of course.

There probably is a solution to your issue, but you're right in that it's probably easier to discuss when images can be shared.

See you either here or at inkscapeforum.com!

Hi Hachmann,

I think I was actually looking for inkscapeforum.com. Thanks! Reposted there with attachments.
