Alt+click for selecting under & dragging on Mac

Asked by leonardo

The Inkscape Basic Tutorial says (at the end) that Alt+click is used for "Selecting under and dragging selected." When I tried this on my Mac G4 (flat panel) Alt/option+click zoomed in on the canvas. Is there another way for me to access or set up the "Selecting under and dragging selected" function?

Thank you.

Thank you Rico for the link. I bookmarked the site and will use it before I ask another question.

When I need Alt+click and Alt+drag I'll "...turn off the 'Emulate three button mouse' under the Input Preferences for X11."

Right now I don't have enough experience with key board commands to know what is more useful or easier for me.
