Pencil Triangle In shows only thin line (ver 0.92)

Asked by JE THIEL

Hi,
I'm trying to draw a curved line that's thicker at one end and comes to a point. When I select the pencil tool and select shape Triangle In, all that I get is a very simple, single line, no depth to it at the beginning.
Thanks,
Joan

Try if adding a fill and removing the stroke of the line helps. Technically, this path effect (Pattern along Path) is using the fill color to create the irregularly shaped stroke.

I found Pencil in Preferences (Shift + Ctrl + P). I tried to simply adjust the stroke to a large number but couldn’t type in the field. Ended up using “Take from selection” option after I had adjusted a stroke manually to look like what I want. I’m new with this, so I don’t know if I had a path/path effect/pattern/fill/object that I selected, but it seems to work better now, I actually can get kind of a swoosh. I’m just thinking there has to be an easier way, this is such a powerful program. And how do I adjust the number without having to manually create something and then “take from selection”?

Thanks for your input.

Don't use a stroke on objects with triangle in / triangle out path effect. It's not working as you think it will work.
Here's a video that explains how to use it better than I could with words:
