creating a 45 on a rectangle

im trying to put a 45 degree on each end of a rectangle for a table base design. what do i need to do? thank you

I've got no idea what a 'table base design' would be, but if you mean that you want to make two of the rectangle's angles 45° angles, then select the rectangle, go to Object -> Transform -> Skew and enter 45 into one of the fields.

If this doesn't answer your question, please clarify what you mean.

I'd use guides. Guides can be set to any angle, precisely located and paths can be snapped to the guides.
