locking objects together

Asked by Phil Ottley

Hi
I am trying to distribute objects within an object. The external object is in it's correct position on the drawing, but when I distribute the objects within it, the outside object moves in relation to its original position on the drawing. In this case I am trying to put panels in a door, evenly distributed with in the door, but when I distribute the door moves in relation to the frame and floor. the bottom of the door ends up below the floor. I had already drawn the wall, door frame and door and aligned them along the bottom.

Thanks for any help.

Phil

You could select 'Relative to: Biggest Object', but that might not give you the result you're looking for.

If you need identical distances all over (so from one border of door to first panel, and then from panel to panel, and then from last panel to door frame), you could add two additional panel objects that you place at the door's borders, then use the 'distribute' feature.

Or if you only want to put the evenly distributed panels into the middle of the door, then first set a right and left border for the panels by putting the rightmost and leftmost panels into their desired positions, then using the distribute evenly feature.
Then group the panels and align the group with the door.

Can you help with this problem?
